For the American rower, Victor Mooney, Gran Canaria became home for thirty days before his fourth try to row across the Atlantic Ocean.

Gran Canaria, an archipelago which is part of Spain, located in the Atlantic Ocean about 150 kilometers (93 miles) off the northwestern coast of Africa laid the foundation of partnership in global fight against HIV/AIDS. For the American rower, Victor Mooney with Equatorial Guinea nationality, it also became home for thirty days before his fourth try to row across the Atlantic Ocean.

Mooney’s boat, Spirit of Malabo, arrived in the Port of Algeciras, Spain this week from New York and is heading to Museum of Modern Art Equatorial Guinea where it will be on permanent exhibition. The Spirit of Malabo exhibition will feature a compilation of photos telling the story of Gran Canaria beauty embedded with humanity. The exhibition will be curated by South African Arts International.

The next port for the Spirit of Malabo is Pointe-Noire, Congo then the Port of Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, where is expected to arrive during annual commemoration of World AIDS Day, December 1. Mr. Mooney departed from Puerto Deportivo Pasito Blanco in Maspalomas and arrived at New York’s Brooklyn Bridge. The five-thousand mile plus transatlantic row took twenty-one months.
