Globe Rome 2008 takes the world by storm March 13 -15, 2008. The international tourism trade fair for the promotion of the Mediterranean and South Europe takes center stage at Rome’s Nuova Fiera Trade Fair Center gathering key players at the forefront of international tourism. The travel fair convenes at the Italian capital highlighting the Mediterranean’s warm water basin and South Europe’s premier holiday spots.

Globe Rome 2008 is today’s answer to the now-defunct Mediterranean Travel Fair held yearly in Cairo at the Convention Center in Nasr City. It is expected to rival the performance by the former Cairo show in business generated by exhibitors.

Globe brings in national and international participants from different countries and territories. Several country organizations and tourism promotion boards will participate including the Embassy of the Slovak Republic, Centro de Promocion y Desarrollo Rural Amazonico, Croatian National Tourist Board, Lithuanian National Tourist Board, Indian National Tourism Office, Lugano Turismo, Maldives Tourism Promotion Board, Nagaradja, Polish Tourist Office, Slovenian Tourist Board, Tunisian National Tourist Board and Turkish Culture and Information Office.

The Rome expo gathers a large percentage of hosted buyers, predominantly top national and international tour operators, who sell the Mediterranean tourism product, 30 percent of whom come from Europe, 25 percent from Asia, 20 percent from the USA, 10 percent from the Middle East, 10 percent from North and South America and the rest from others regions.
Other delegates cover services ranging from trip providers such as airlines, tours operators to hotels and destinations such as independent, emerging destinations.

At the heart of Globe, Greece will be the featured destination. The Greek National Tourist Board will be present as Greece has been named Globe’s top destination following the success of the country’s advertising campaign dubbed Greece, the true experience.

The world’s highest performers in tourism and the countries described as the fastest to grow its tourism in the Mediterranean this decade will be receive additional spotlight by this show in March. A record number of visitors are expected to attend this premier trade fair.

Also in focus at Globe are alternative forms of tourism and deseasonalization – some new features used to promote the country as a destination. Marios Leandros Sklivaniotis, director of the Board in Italy at its Rome office, underscores how new forms of alternative tourism such as luxury city breaks, outdoor activities, health, well-being and touring, support traditional ones such as seaside, conference, cultural, nautical and thermal tourism. According to Sklivaniotis, Globe Rome’s objective is to deseasonalize tourism and extend the tourism season by presenting Greece as a year-round destination. He said target niche is middle to high-end markets, customers who are interested in luxury stays throughout the year such as golf, casinos, spas, in or trendy places, exclusive destinations, and leisure boating. The campaign is also aimed at groups and associations engage in outdoors such as trekking, cycling, religious tourism, promoted in a variety of destinations.

Rome’s three-day tourism showdown is expected to grow from this year to the next at pace with the booming global travel business that rakes in billions of dollars for major tourism stakeholders across the Mediterranean and southern Europe.
