India has a vast coastline but has been a late starter in making use of it for leisure or commercial purposes.

Now, the government has embarked on an ambitious program to see that the waters are used not only for navigation, but for tourism and entertainment as well. This is being done largely through a joint venture and partnerships with the private sector.

Seeing the in opportunity this, a water and beach lover, Shripriya Dalmia Thirani, has taken the plunge, as it were, and is offering two ships, which will be near the Mumbai coastline, to provide entertainment, a meetings facility, and cuisine for 400 guests on each ship.

Shripriya Dalmia Thirani is a lady of many experiences and has dabbled in various fruitful activities in her 37 years. This includes art, film-making, and production, but her first love has always been the water, and that is where she is now after seeing many seashores and destinations during her business and leisure trips.

What she is doing now will please many visitors and travelers, not least of them, herself.

Shripriya, from a well-known family of industrialists, is embarking on opening the seashores of Mumbai, with two impressive 400-seater ships, brought from Turkey and now flying the India tricolor. She is excited about what the ships will offer, once they are ready later this year.

In a chat with this correspondent, she revealed that guests on the ships will be able to do many activities and options of literary activities, debates, and even plays will also be offered onboard. Both tourists and locals will be able to spend useful, leisurely time, as they relish the variety of food as well. The ships will be available for groups, meetings, and conferences – a unique MICE venue.

For the moment, overnight stays and a casino are not in the cards. But one thing is sure – the ships will add a new dimension to cruise, entertainment, fine dining, and the meetings industry.
